I recently started working heavily with a laptop while still using my desktop computer and quickly realized that I needed a way to sync my files. I wanted something simple but still sophisticated enough that it did not just do a straight copy of everything every time. Well in this article I am going to cover two programs I found valuable in this process.
The first program is called Always Sync. This program is very simple but sophisticated enough that it keeps you files up to date with a simple version control features. You simply specify folders on each computer (or location / network location) you want to sync and your done. You also have additional features to control inclusion / exclusion, the way files are replaced / deleted, and version control. It can also be configured to run autonomously.
Find DuplicatesThe next program is more of a sync optimization program in a way, since it will find duplicate files and can help reduce the amount of data needed to sync. Its called Find Duplicates. Since I was finding files that where the same on two machines but had different files names, this came in handy to review and eliminate files not needed anymore since I was going to sync between my two PCs.
